Handwashing unit

Handwashing in accordance with medical and hygiene guidelines

Areas of application

The handwashing unit is suitable for use in stationary and mobile medical units, outpatient healthcare facilities, aid organisations and civil protection services.
The washing station is used in:

  • Hospitals
  • Containers
  • Permanent accommodation
  • Covered outdoor areas or tents
  • In safety laboratories

The handwashing unit can be used in tropical or cold climates. The entire system can be set up in 10 minutes and is ready for use after a further 15 minutes. It is designed as a fully self-sufficient system and optimised for minimal water consumption. Economical water use is also advantageous in safety laboratories, as the disposal of wash water incurs high costs in such settings.

Areas of application

  • Particularly suitable for use in surgical areas
  • For thorough cleaning and disinfection of hands and forearms without contamination from fittings
  • Minimises the risk of infection for doctors, healthcare staff and patients
  • Washing hands with clean water reduces the bacterial count on the skin by up to 90%

Advantages

  • Fully automatic operation
  • Touch-free water dispensing via motion sensor or foot switch
  • Lightweight, portable and robust
  • Quick to assemble and dismantle in just a few simple steps
  • Supplied via a canister or mains water supply
  • Low power consumption
  • Continuous UV disinfection of the mains water prior to dispensing (Option)

Features

The washbasin unit complies with current hygiene regulations. It is characterised by its compact dimensions and low weight.
During a standard hand-washing procedure in the operating theatre, a maximum of four litres of water is used thanks to the sophisticated sensor and tap technology. A single canister is sufficient for up to six thorough hand washes.
The continuously adjustable temperature is set within one second at the tap. Short connecting pipes leading to the instantaneous water heater, small pipe diameters with high flow rates and the avoidance of dead spaces ensure the highest level of hygiene within the unit.

Construction
The hand-washing unit consists of individual components that are easy to assemble:
fresh water tank, waste water tank, pressure tank, washbasin unit with feed water pump, instantaneous water heater and tap.

A soap and a disinfectant dispenser are attached to the basin. The unit stands on a sturdy stainless steel base frame. The tanks required for the water supply are housed on the platform within the base frame. A power cable, air pump and a water hose, packed in hanging pouches, complete the mobile unit. The components are easy to clean.

Transport crate with fittings

The complete hand-washing unit is packed in a sturdy transport crate and weighs approx. 70 kg. The crate is fitted with 4 carrying handles, is stackable, suitable for air transport and can also be transported by road as a secured load. All equipment is secured inside the crate.

Safety features

  • The instantaneous water heater immediately switches off the heating if the washing temperature exceeds 42 °C
  • The heating output is controlled using vibration-damping technology, ensuring trouble-free mains operation even in operating theatres
  • Automatic level monitoring in the fresh water and waste water tanks ensures safe operation
  • Bubble detector: air bubbles carried in the water pipe do not damage the instantaneous water heater, as is usually the case
  • Controlled disposal of wash water

In crisis areas or challenging environments, a consistent supply of electricity and drinking water, as well as the disposal of waste water, cannot be guaranteed. The design of the mobile hand-washing unit takes these issues into account.

  • Starke Schwankungen oder Unterbrechungen im Stromnetz führen nicht zum Ausfall des Geräts
  • A sudden drop in pressure or a failure in the local water supply will not interrupt the washing cycle
  • High-performance filters protect the unit
  • In the event of a control fault, hot water can still be supplied in manual mode

  • The unit can be automatically drained and made frost-proof in just a few simple steps if there is a risk of frost

Control panel
The hand-washing unit is operated via the waterproof membrane keypad. A microprocessor ensures a convenient hot water supply and indicates any operating errors. The display shows the operating time by default. This is useful if you wish to monitor the duration of hand washing.

Scroll button on the control panel
The following operating statuses are displayed:

  • Operating time in minutes and seconds
  • System operating time in hours
  • Inlet pressure in the pressure tank
  • Inlet temperature before the instantaneous water heater
  • Wash water temperature
  • Temperature difference between outlet and inlet
  • Display switched off

Fresh water supply systems
The water must be of drinking water quality.
Three different operating modes are available.

  1. Intermittent operation: Water from canisters
  2. Mains water connection: Automatic filling of the fresh water tank.
The built-in pump maintains a constant water pressure in the pressure tank
  3. Direct connection to the pressure tank with a guaranteed inlet pressure>3 bar

Hand shower for showering and washing outside the washbasin
A 3-metre-long hose with a hand shower is available for showering and washing outside the washbasin. A flexible collection tray can be placed beneath the patient to allow them to be showered. This makes it possible to wash patients who are lying down comfortably. Up to 8 litres of water are used per shower. A key advantage is that the washing temperature can be set to a maximum of 38 °C, thereby eliminating the risk of scalding.

Wastewater pump
A wastewater pump enables the automatic emptying of the wastewater tank or collection tank into the mains drainage system, a sink or a septic tank.

UV lamp for drinking water disinfection
A UV lamp integrated into the pressure tank disinfects the water just before it is consumed. UV-C radiation has a toxic effect on algae, bacteria, viruses, etc. The high radiation intensity of 16 watts, combined with the reflective effect of the stainless steel tank, enables rapid germ reduction and prevents new growth. In safety laboratories, the components are specially adapted, and the transport crate is not required.

This mobile hand-washing unit ensures hygienic washing even under extreme conditions.
